Acquiring an Instrument
Helpful Hints

Guitar Lessons
You must have a guitar to begin lessons. It must be in good working condition. The strings must be
easy for the student to press down. Students may begin with either acoustic or electric, but acoustic
is preferred for proper technique. It is easy to transition to an electric guitar, but harder to go from
electric to acoustic. Also, the acoustic is a joy to bring wherever you go, without worrying about
having to "plug in."  If you need to purchase an instrument,
Guitar Center in Maple Grove can
help you choose a guitar that is right for you. You can plan on spending about $200 on a quality
instrument that will give the student a positive experience in lessons.

Violin Lessons
Please see a professional location for violin sizing and rentals.  Here are a few places to check out:
Schmitt Music, Brooklyn Park or All Strings Attached, St. Louis Park

You can expect to spend $20 per month on a violin rental and most places will allow you to "rent to
own.

Drum Lessons
You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons. Beginning students can learn with a drum
pad and sticks for only $25.00. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring
anything except their drum sticks and a notebook. Of course, having a drum set at home is optimal
for continued success!
