Home Lessons Responsibilities

Having piano lessons in your home is a wonderful convenience and can be a very
enjoyable experience for the student, parents, and teacher.  Here are some basic
guidelines to make your home lessons enjoyable for everyone involved.

  • Provide an atmosphere free from distraction for the teacher and student.  This includes
an area void of TV, computer, siblings, pets, etc.

  • Be sure your child is ready for his lesson.  He should have all his books and his
assignment notebook ready and by the piano, and everything else cleared from the piano
    and bench.

  • Provide the teacher with a sturdy chair (example:  a dining room chair or a metal folding
chair) from which he/she can teach.  Please have this ready and available when he/she
arrives for each lesson.  A music stand is helpful for teaching, but not necessary. If you
have one available, please have it ready as well.

  • Please be sure you have adequate lighting available at your piano for the student and
teacher to see the music being played.  The room should also be well lit with overhead
    lighting or lamps.

  • Our policies remain the same for home or studio lessons concerning cancelled or missed
lessons:  tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance.  Please call well in advance to
notify the teacher if the student will miss a lesson to avoid unnecessary travel to your
home.  However, it is completely up to the teacher’s discretion if that lesson will be made
    up.

  • Lesson days and times will remain at their fixed time, just as they would with lessons in a
studio.  If needed, you may request a change in day or time slot at the beginning of a new
    semester.

  • Please remember that your child’s teacher is on a tight schedule.  Each lesson must be
kept to 30 minutes long so that each subsequent lesson of that day will stay on schedule.

  • You will find that having a teacher come to your home is a wonderful way to keep in good
communication with the teacher and you will develop a relationship because of your
frequent contact.  However, please keep conversation to a minimum to ensure that your
child has a full 30-minute lesson.  Feel free to call the teacher with any questions or
    concerns later in the week.

  • Because lessons are in your home, it will be tempting to participate in the lesson or to
hover nearby.  Please resist this temptation and allow your child a private lesson with the
teacher.  This is very essential to a quality lesson and will help the child relax with the
teacher and help him do his best.
